SAPULPA, Okla. — The City of Sapulpa has worked all year to prepare for the annual Route 66 Christmas Chute.
Jennifer Dilley is on the Christmas Chute Committee. She explained this year, the chute will have more lights, new themes and a 30 foot Christmas tree.
Dilley says the chute started as a fun community Christmas event. The community had no idea it would bring in people from all over the country.
“What’s happened because of this is we’ve had people buy buildings, restore buildings, bring business to downtown and revitalize downtown which has been awesome,” said Dilley.
Lucy Lawson with the City of Sapulpa says last year, 600,000 people came through the chute. The population of Sapulpa is only 22,000.
“Every restaurant has a wait time. There’s a restaurant here in downtown that sees about 15 tables a day and during the Christmas Chute, they turn 350 tables a …
