TOLEDO, Iowa (KCRG) – The idea of turning a major intersection in Tama County into a roundabout is causing controversy among residents. The Iowa DOT held a public meeting Tuesday to present the plans to the public.
It’s the intersection of Highway 63 and Business Route 30 in Toledo that could become a roundabout next year. Every day 6,100 vehicles drive through the intersection. Josh Roberts drives one of them.
“I work second shift,” he said. “When I leave, it’s pretty congested but when I come back, it’s pretty dead.”
Roberts’s biggest concern was how large farm equipment would be able to make it through the roundabout.
“We’ve got a lot of equipment that runs through this town,” he said.
It’s the same worry that Jim Kupka of Clutier has. He said he drives through the intersection 5 times a week, sometimes hauling cattle.
