Halloween originated in Ireland. In fact, it traces back to an ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated over 2,000 years ago. This festival marked the end of the harvest season and the onset of winter when the Celts believed the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest. Bonfires were lit, costumes were worn to ward off spirits and offerings were made to appease otherworldly beings. The latest campaign from Discover Ireland celebrates this rich history.
