Is New Haven pizza boosting Connecticuts tourism industry? [Video]

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Leaders in both government and industry say Connecticut’s tourism sector remains vibrant, but faced sectoral challenges this summer that led to an overall decline in visitors to the state.

“I think the macro challenges are both demand for global once-in-a-lifetime travel is up, but also some of the small businesses that are experiencing the effects of inflation are having some of those challenges that rise up,” said Anthony M. Anthony, the chief marketing officer for the state who oversees the state’s efforts to promote tourism.

Soctt Dolch, the head of the Connecticut Restaurant Association, concurred.

“Obviously inflation has not – it’s gone down a little bit – but for our industry, it’s still real and it’s affecting being able to be profitable,” Dolch said.

He also noted the impacts of this summer’s weather. Frequent rain hurt outdoor dining operations, and extreme flooding devastated multiple restaurants.
