ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A freak accident caused a fire at an elderly woman’s home, and before emergency services could arrive, local plumber Doug Bell pulled her to safety.

Thursday afternoon in the 1000 block of Palm Street, a fire broke out when a tree limb fell onto a home’s gas meter. The meter was damaged, and the gas ignited and started the blaze. Doug Bell, a plumber with Midway Plumbing, was working nearby when he heard the crash of the tree limb falling and saw that a fire had broken out at an elderly woman’s house. That is when Bell said he decided to act.
