With a new coach and new starting QB, Mount Vernons standards remain the same [Video]

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa (KCRG) – First year head coach Brad Meester has his team’s attention.

“He’s got that certain aura around him when he speaks everyone listens,” said junior quarterback Kellen Haverback. “We trust him, and he’s our guy. We will go to war for that guy.”

Just like Meester, Haverback’s experiencing a first. His first year as the Mustangs’ starting QB.

“There’s a little bit of nervousness, everyone has it,” Haverback said. “But I think that when you have guys around you like we do, the coaches and support we have, it all kind of goes away.”

Haverback and his teammates have grown up around a solid program with high expectations as of late, making at least the quarterfinals of the playoffs each of the last two years.

Is there any extra pressure to uphold that standard? Senior Watson Krob says no.
