Good riddance and goodbye, Gov. Healey says as Mass. gets deals to keep Steward hospitals open [Video]

With deals in place to keep the doors open at five hospitals operated by bankrupt Steward Health Care, Massachusetts is “closing the book … once and for all,” on the company, Gov. Maura Healey said Friday.

“It’s a long time coming. We’re here. It’s a new chapter starting today, a new chapter for patients and residents, a new chapter for our great healthcare workers, our incredible nurses, healthcare workers, all the staff, the people who make our hospitals actually run,” the Democratic governor said during a news conference at the State House in Boston.

“Good riddance and goodbye,” Healey, who has long pressed for the company to leave Massachusetts said. “That is a good thing.”

The midafternoon news conference came hours after Healey’s office announced it had reached “deals in principle” with Steward on the properties.
