ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – There’s an old saying that no matter how busy or crazy your life can get, it’s still business as usual in the woods. The Katmai Brown Bear Cam at Brooks Falls is a wonderful reminder of that.

The livestream camera catches a lot of brown bears catching a lot of fish. These bears develop fan followings, people who look forward to seeing them come out of hibernation and fish every summer.

One of the more notable and beloved bears is Otis. He’s described as a medium-large adult male with a floppy right ear and blocky muzzle. Early in the summer, he has light brown fur which becomes grizzled brown in the fall.

Otis earned his fanfare by claiming the inaugural Fat Bear Tuesday championship in 2014, and has been Fat Bear Week champion three times.

Unfortunately, Otis has yet to be seen this summer.

Michael Bay, director of operations at the Katmai Conservatory, says it’s hard to definitively say when — or if — we’ll see Otis again.
