New Orleans DA calls for accountability for juvenile ankle monitors [Video]

The Orleans Parish district attorney announced he wants juvenile court judges to hold hearings for juveniles on electronic monitor programs, saying there has been no oversight for the program.According to District Attorney Jason Williams, there are several pressing issues in the juvenile justice system, and he wants to see accountability, demanding standards be put in place for ankle monitor systems.”Electronic monitoring is not a panacea. It’s not a silver bullet, and it doesn’t work for every defendant,” Williams said.According to the DA, the juvenile electronic monitoring program is not a one-size-fits-all approach.”I don’t believe it should be used for violent offenders. I think we need to be very careful on which cases we use it on,” Williams said.
