One of the many symbols of the town used to be the sign next to the community announcement board. The sign used to say, “Welcome to Cohasset.” Now it’s split in half and badly burned from the fire, much like the rest of the town – devastated – with burned homes, cars, falling trees, plumes of smoke and almes still burning.
COHASSET, Calif. – John Moretti had it all.
“We built it; it was a log cabin; it was our dream home and so we’ve been there for 15 years,” Moretti said.
Moretti has been to hundreds of fires throughout his 40 years of experience as a firefighter. He started the North Valley Animal Disaster Group back in 1999.
It was a shock for him to learn that all the work he’s done over the years, preparing his own home in Cohasset with defensible space, was no match for the Park Fire.
