On July 13, 2022… The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina was celebrating a major donation!
The organization received its largest gift in its 120-year history.
It was $8 million from philanthropist Mackenzie Scott.
They planned to use the money to fund initiatives like their family preservation programs.
“Where families who are in danger of having their children removed have the opportunity to work with a family preservation specialist. They are in the home with the family 10 hours a week for a month and they look at what the challenges are.”
CHS said 97% of families are still together a year after receiving the preservation service.
Their data shows it kept 15,000 children from entering the foster care system.
