Watertown neighbors raise their new flag on Independence Day [Video]

WATERTOWN, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – It was a special Independence Day for a small neighborhood in Watertown where an idea from one neighbor turned into residents banding together to put up a permanent flagpole.

In a relatively new development in Watertown, just off Willow Creek Drive, you will find no shortage of patriotism. It seemed fitting to invest in a flagpole to display the stars and stripes for all to see.

On Thursday, their fundraising and their hard work paid off as they raised the flag on the most patriotic of days.

Of the fifteen homes that surround Willow Creek Pond, seven are home to a veteran. This tight-knit community began to work together on a new project last year when Air Force veteran Al Schochenmaier pitched an idea.
