Memphis’ USL franchise, Memphis 901 FC, will be relocating to Santa Barbara, California, according to reports. Geoff Calkins discussed on Wednesday (11/13) on 92.9 FM ESPN.

Multiple efforts to obtain state funding designated for various sports projects in the City of Memphis fell short for 901 FC investors. Investors pointed to declining sponsorships and the need for a larger fan base to sustain the club. For the city’s soccer fans, however, it felt like more than just a business decision; it felt personal. Over the years, Memphis 901 FC had become part of the city’s culture, offering a unique identity that was distinctly Memphis.
