5 dogs missing after Fourth of July backyard BBQ starts house fire [Video]

PEORIA, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) – One person was injured and five dogs are missing after a fast-moving fire that officials say was started by a Fourth of July holiday barbecue.

According to Rural Metro firefighters, the blaze started around 9:30 a.m. as a barbecue fire outside spread to the home near 88th Avenue and Williams Road. The house is located on a county island surrounded by Peoria.

Crews from Peoria Fire-Medical were first on the scene as the fire was quickly spreading through the home. Officials say fire hydrants are scarce in that area, and extended hoses were used to bring water.

Because of the water delay, additional fire crews were called in. They were able to get the fire under control later in the morning.

According to Peoria Fire-Medical, the fire started due to a “malfunction” with a barbecue grill. The homeowner burned his hand while trying to put the fire …
