The San Francisco 49ers’ worst nightmares have come true. They have placed starting running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve and he will now be out for at least four games.
McCaffrey has been dealing with some calf tightness and Achilles tendinitis, missing the first game for San Francisco. He was already likely to be out for the 49ers game this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings and now will need extra time to recover.
The next four games for the 49ers include the Vikings game this weekend, then they go on the road to face the Los Angeles Rams, host the New England Patriots, and finally host the Arizona Cardinals.
Each of these four games is very winnable for the 49ers, with the Rams game being the toughest on the schedule. But Los Angeles has been dealing with their own set of injuries, potentially giving San Francisco a leg up.
