GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Republicans Bill Hirsch and Robin Halsted are facing off in the Aug. 6 primary election for a chance at representing Gaines Township, District 10, on the Kent County Board of Commissioners.

The seat is held by Emily Brieve, a Republican first elected in 2014, but she is not seeking re-election.

The winner in the Republican primary will face Democrat Roslund Harris in the November general election.

Bill Hirsch, 55, a self-employed farmer, served on the Kent County Board of Commissioners from 2008 to 2012, when he lost a bid for reelection. Hirsch challenged Brieve for the seat in 2022 but lost.

Robin Halsted, 54, is a business/marketing assistant who previously served as the executive director of the Cutlerville-Gaines Chamber of Commerce from 2008 to 2011.
